Gremca, a leading company in the palm oil sector, has taken a significant step towards sustainability with the inauguration of a solar park at its plant located in El Copey, Cesar. With an investment of over $12 billion, the project integrates more than 5,130 solar panels capable of generating 2.8 MW, equivalent to 4.8 million kilowatt-hours per year. This initiative will reduce the emission of 3.2 tons of CO₂ per year, strengthening the company’s environmental commitment.
According to Óscar Cifuentes, general manager of Gremca, the solar plant will not only allow the company to achieve a negative carbon footprint, but also recover the investment in a period of five years through savings in energy consumption. This solar park, together with its power generation plant from biogas, consolidates Gremca as a benchmark in climate change mitigation and the use of renewable energy in the agro-industrial sector.
In addition to meeting the high energy demands in the summer season, the surplus energy produced during the winter will be exported to the electricity grid, indirectly benefiting the community. This project aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals and reaffirms Gremca’s leadership in the implementation of environmentally responsible practices.
